Local Food from Local Farms
The Farmer’s market is organized by the Agriculture and Marine Resources directorate at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, which is the governmental entity responsible for and entrusted with food security and safety in the Kingdom.
several initiatives have been launched to develop the local agricultural sector in Bahrain, including the development of agricultural laboratories, providing support to local farmers, encouraging agricultural investment, and marketing to farmers produces through the seasonal farmers' market in Budaiya Botanical Garden, and the permanent market farmers in A’ali.
Seasonal Farmer’s Market
First introduced in 2012, the Farmer’s Market was an initiative to develop the agriculture sector in Bahrain to support more sustainable food production and the promote the sale of products produced sustainably.
The Farmers market is organized annually at the Budaiya Botanical Gardens from December to April and is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Permanent Farmer’s Market
Due to its huge success of the seasonal farmers market, a permanent destination for locally grown fresh produce have been established.
The permanent farmers market is open 6 days a week Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in A’ali.
The Farmers Markets gives local producers a retail outlet that enables them to sell directly to the public and to strengthen the links between producer and consumer. It contributes in achieving food security in the Kingdom and Promote sustainable agriculture.
