Universities and higher education

The Higher Education Council (HEC) is concerned with administrative, academic, research, and student issues related to universities. Its responsibilities include setting public policies for higher education and scientific research; recommending the establishment of public higher education institutions in the Kingdom; approval of specializations and any amendments made to them; setting general standards for student acceptance into higher education institutions; and researching and suggesting amendments to higher education laws and regulations. In addition, it addresses the challenges facing higher education and suggests methods of overcoming them, sets licensing requirements and criteria for higher education institutions in all forms, and licenses private higher education institutions within the framework of the National Higher Education Strategy.
